"Truly an incite into Victorian prison life" (5 of 5 starsReviewed 16 April 2012)

"It was absolutely spectacular, we visited here on a very stormy winters afternoon, and it got dark outside while we were there, the wind was blowing around the roof and howled like a banshee, it was eerily spectacular. there are lots of yards and nooks and crannies to explore, and is a really good place for all the family, there was also a museum there explaining the life of prisoners throughout the years when the prison was open, very harsh from what I saw, what with chain gangs, and punishments etc, though surprisingly there was never an execution here, they all happened up the road in Mountjoy.
This place is really worth a visit, for many reasons including Irish history, what life was like in a Victorian prison and just plain curiosity. give it a go, you'll enjoy it".

"Worth the trip" (Reviewed 24 April 2012)

"Even though it's a little out of the way the tour was an interesting Irish history lesson and showed the conditions of prison life".

"A surprising tour" (Reviewed 23 April 2012 )

"We thought this would just be an interesting tour of an old (1792) jail. It was much more; finally we heard some of the history of Ireland, of the 1916 uprising and, of the political prisoners who were housed and executed here. Well worth the price of admission".
