Royal Hospital Kilmainham (200 metres)
The Irish Museum of Modern Art, in
collaboration with the Office of Public
Works, presents the magnificent 17th
Century Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.
There are guided tours (summer),
audio-visual displays, gardens,
bookshop, talks and lectures.
Open daily Tuesday to Sunday.
Admission free.
War
Memorial Gardens (5 min walk)
These gardens are one of the most famous
memorial gardens in Europe. They are
dedicated to the memory of 49,400 Irish
soldiers who died in the 1914/1918 war.
The names of the soldiers are contained
in the beautifully illustrated Harry
Clarke Manuscripts in the Granite
Bookrooms in the gardens.
Opening hours: Monday–Friday 8.00a.m.
Saturday–Sunday 10.00a.m. Closing
according to daylight.
Phoenix
Park (10 min walk)
The phoenix Park is over 700 hectares
(1752 acres) in area and is the largest
enclosed public park in any capital city
in Europe. It was originally formed as a
Royal hunting park in the 1660s and
opened to the public in 1747. A large
herd of Fallon Deer still remain to this
day. The park is also home to the
President of Ireland, the U.S.
Ambassadors Residence, the Zoological
Gardens, and the Victorian Flower
Gardens.
The Guinness Storehouse (20 min walk)
The Guinness Storehouse is the home of
Guinness. The exciting new Guinness
experience opened in December 2000 and
is based in the heart of the Guinness
Brewery. No visit to Dublin would be
complete without enjoying a
complimentary pint with the best view of
